Colloidal Silver: Adverse Effects & Concerns

Adverse Effects & Concerns

Argyria:

What is Argyria?

Argyria: The condition where you have an excessive overload of silver in your system and it gets sequestered in the skin, causing the skin to become gray or even blue in the extreme. ‌

With Silver, the body will start trying to push the excessive silver accumulation out to the skin, which is your body's third major organ of elimination. Although short term high colloidal silver dosage is reported to be beneficial to rid the body of infection, for maintenance, using recommended dosages is important for safety. Use of colloidal silver prophylactically when having no health issues is controversial.

‌I can find no reports of people using lab tested commercial 10-25ppm colloidal silver in recommended dosages having caused argyria. ‌All the reported cases of argyria have been due to excessive, abusive amounts of colloidal silver having been taken, taking an unknown substance that has not been characterized or from industrial exposures.‌

While argyria occurred more commonly before the development of antibiotics, it is now a rare occurrence. Greene and Su (1987). That being said, of the 10's of millions of silver users worldwide there is a very, very small percentage that do have argyria to some degree.

The following video clip is of probably of the most famous. Please note his lack of understanding of colloidal silver, why he was taking it, the amount taken and the crude device he has to make it. This device cannot make properly sized nanoparticles of pure silver that are healthy or effective. It is a poison and dangerous.

Brain Barrier

Small Particles And Concerns About The Brain Barrier

A Flawed Study Claims Silver Nanoparticles Are Neurotoxic and Brain Toxic Concerns have been raised about nanosilver (colloidal silver) passing the brain barrier and causing serious toxicity issues. The initial referenced study had a number of errors in it and used dosages over 300 times the recommended amount, invalidating it.

The study was not conducted on human beings. It was strictly an animal study. In fact, it was conducted on tiny pregnant albino mice that were force fed through a tube a ridiculously high dosage, over 300 times an extrapolated amount that is recommended for humans.

In the end, the only thing the researchers proved is that if you excessively overdose pregnant mice and their little fetuses by forcing it into them through a tube each day for 10 days straight, you can trigger a neurotoxic effect. The link below is for the study concluding that the typical low dosages of colloidal silver produced no toxicity above normal levels and comparable to the control.

Other concerns

Why is Colloidal now not classified as "Non-Toxic"

Prior to 1999 the FDA classified colloidal silver as non-toxic. After 1999 the FDA declared that there were concerns and its use needed to be highly regulated. No studies or supporting evidence was published by the FDA to account for the toxicity declaration change. This period also was a time where pharma was able to exert pressure to limit use of common, natural anti-microbials, like colloidal silver, hoping to have the public choose to buy pharmaceuticals instead of natural solutions.
